Jolie and the Jackalopes is a high-octane, cosmic-country ensemble that embodies the rebellious spirit and mythic heart of Old Austin. Fronted by singer, songwriter, and magnetic performer Jolie Goodnight, the band fuses the mystique of Western noir with the soul of American roots music, creating a sound that feels both retro-futuristic and undeniably alive.
The band’s story is steeped in Austin’s musical lineage. Goodnight is the daughter of two Texas legends, producer and tastemaker Joe Gracey and singer-songwriter Kimmie Rhodes, and grew up absorbed in the world they helped shape. Gracey, hailed by Billboard Magazine as the “Godfather of Progressive Country” and known as the first talent scout for Austin City Limits, helped pioneer the very sound that would define the city. After her father’s passing, Jolie formed Jolie and the Jackalopes, determined not only to carry forward the rich legacy of Austin’s cosmic country movement but to transform it with her own voice, perspective, and theatricality.
Years later, after the loss of her husband Jason, Goodnight revived the band with renewed purpose, not as a nostalgic tribute, but as a rallying cry. Recognizing a collective need for levity, catharsis, and celebration, she returned to the stage with music that invites people to dance, laugh loudly, and escape the heaviness of the world, if only for a night.
Musically, Jolie and the Jackalopes weave a dynamic sonic palette that blends cosmic country, rockabilly, and sultry Americana with jazz-tinged sensibilities. Goodnight’s reputation as a smoky, cinematic vocal stylist, equal parts torch singer, honky-tonk angel, and silver-screen siren, gives the band an unmistakable identity that stands out in Austin’s crowded nightlife.
Known for performances at festivals like Viva Las Vegas, as well as international tours and cult-favorite club shows, the band has built a loyal following that spans rockabilly die-hards, country music purists, and anyone who loves Old Austin.
